“the ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and evolution of human beings”.
~ Masanobu Fukuoka
Yelin Forest Farm is owned and operated by Jules and Loucky. We live on the land with our young son, Marlow Luan. We moved from the Netherlands in 2022 to start building the farm, and are grateful every day for the opportunity to pour our energies into revitalising our local ecosystem, increasing the resilience of our local food system, and letting others share our passion for growing vibrant and healthy food.
For us, agriculture isn’t just an exercise in producing food. It’s also about delving into and questioning how you see the world, and learning about yourself and others in the process. It’s about developing and spreading ecological consciousness.
It was Jules’ mother, Yeats, who named this place Yelin almost 20 years ago. In Chinese, Yelin means ‘leafy forest’. This is spot on considering we’re surrounded by towering eucalypts – 9/10ths of the total 27 hectares of this land is native forest, and the market garden makes up just a small element of it.
