Our growing philosophy:
Feed the soil and it will feed you

In the market garden, we grow according to principles of regenerative agriculture that maximize natural soil fertility and biological vitality.  We funnel as much life and energy into the soil as possible so that it can support the growth of the best possible vegetables. This means we:

  • Use only organic inputs and don’t allow chemicals to affect soil biodiversity;

  • Adopt no-till practices that disturb the soil biology minimally;

  • Grow a range of summer green manures and cover crops that directly feed the soil each Autumn before the veggie season begins;

  • Produce our own compost from the manure of our chicken flock, who free range amongst our forage gardens and tropical food forest.

At a broader level, we implement a holistic approach to permaculture systems design. This is  all about managing energy flows: we capture the sun’s energy, store it, and utilise it in the most productive way possible. This includes water harvesting through the use of dams, swales, and solar-powered irrigation.

Our focus on soil health, regenerative growing methods, and energy capture extends from the land at Yelin to the environment and community around us. In buying our produce, you’re both investing directly into your local community and enhancing the resilience and diversity of our local ecosystem.

And on top of that you’re proving that through regenerative agriculture it is possible to care for both people and the planet.
